A 22-year-old man with moderate intellectual disability is referred to the PMHNP for aggressive behaviors including hitting staff and breaking objects at his group home. Staff report these behaviors occur primarily during transitions between activities and when demands are placed on him. He has no prior psychiatric diagnosis. His previous provider started risperidone 2 mg BID, but behaviors have not improved. The PMHNP reassesses the treatment approach.
