A 44-year-old male presents for psychiatric evaluation after his wife threatened divorce over his financial behavior. He reports spending increasing amounts of money at casinos over the past 2 years, frequently returning to 'chase' his losses. He has lied to his wife about the extent of his gambling, has borrowed money from relatives under false pretenses, and has unsuccessfully tried to cut back multiple times. He reports feeling restless and irritable when he attempts to stop. He denies substance use but acknowledges gambling to escape feelings of anxiety and depression.
