A 35-year-old man with schizophrenia was admitted involuntarily after threatening his neighbor. After 72 hours of antipsychotic treatment, the hold expires and he no longer meets involuntary criteria. He demands to leave against medical advice, though he remains partially symptomatic with residual paranoia. His outpatient PMHNP appointment is not for two weeks. The treatment team must manage the AMA discharge process.
